This work belongs to the Secrets series that Moraga developed from 2006 to 2008. The works in this series are characterized by carrying, in a metaphorical way, some kind of enigma that must be revealed.
To do so, Moraga uses his particular iconography. In this case he uses the keys icon. Ancient keys that can open doors that have remained closed for a long time and that hide forgotten secrets.
In this work we find that the artist has used several supports in the same work: canvas and wood. On the other hand, in the lower part we find a framework of rusty sheets that contains a large number of keys lost at the bottom of the sea. Lost keys add an element of mystery, since we will never know what was behind the doors they opened.
The keys constitute the only figurative element of the work, which is closer to abstraction rather than to figuration.
In the same way, we can find certain parts rusted by the passage of time. The use of rust is a constant in Ricardo Moraga’s works. The artist uses this rust to make the viewer aware of the passage of time that affects all things and beings in the universe.
