Artist: Ricardo Moraga
Media: mixed media on canvas
Edition: unique piece
Size: 195 x 150 cm (Triptych)
This work belongs to the Bottom of the Sea series that Moraga develops from 2017 on. This is one of Moraga’s favorite themes, which he uses very often.
Depending on the work, this series includes coral reefs, sunken ships, colorful fish, and even close-ups of fish. In all of them it is worth noting the great quality of the shades of blue that the artist achieves, even in the darkest areas the blues maintain their tonal depth.
This work, Fish, is presented as a set divided into 3 paintings as a triptych. This visual game is reinforced by the use of different shades of blue for each part. The artist uses this color treatment to break the chromatic monotony and make the vision of the work more dynamic in the eyes of the viewer.
On the other hand, in the upper part we see an iron bar with evidence of oxidation. The use of rusty areas is a constant in the artist’s language, used to draw the viewer’s attention to the passage of time that affects all things and beings.
