This sculpture belongs to the expressionist period that Subirachs developed throughout the 50s of the 20th century. This period is characterized by sharp-faced characters and the use of a great deal of texture on the surface of bronze.

This was the style chosen by Subirachs -to enhance the drama of the scene- for the characters in the sculptural ensemble of the Passion Facade of the Temple of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
