The 37th edition of the America’s Cup will begin in a few months. It is the most important maritime event in the world, and third in total just behind the Olympic Games and the World Cup. It is also the oldest sporting competition, having been held since 1851.
The competition takes place every four years. The best crews and design teams from different yacht clubs organise this regatta in cities around the world. The winner of the last edition is always in charge of choosing the city where the next regatta will be held. In this case, Emirates Team New Zealand, winner of the last edition, has chosen the city of Barcelona for this 37th edition.

The city of Barcelona was chosen over other cities such as Malaga, Cork (Ireland) or Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) for its first-class facilities for the regattas, its technical infrastructure, its weather conditions and the hospitality of its inhabitants, among other reasons. In addition, this edition will have the involvement of 2,300 volunteers from Barcelona who have thrown themselves into the sporting event.
It is worth remembering that the coastal town in Garraf, Vilanova i La Geltru, hosted the first Preliminary Regatta of the 37th America’s Cup from 14th to 17th September 2023.
In the capital of Garraf, the Defender of the America’s Cup (Emirates Team New Zealand) and the five challenger teams (Challengers), INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic and Orient Express Racing Team, presented their line-ups of sailors and showed their intentions for the America’s Cup. These teams from New Zealand, Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, the United States and France, already set their bases in August 2023 to carry out their training.
The regatta will take place during the months of August to October 2024 in the Port Vell and the Port Olimpic in Barcelona, where the six teams will compete to win the coveted trophy, the RYS £100 Cup.

The programme and activities will officially begin on 22nd August, before the last Preliminary Regatta, which will last until 25th August. From 29th August the Round Robin stages will begin and will end on 5th October, if the weather allows.
The final Match of the regatta consists of a series of matches and the victory is awarded to the first to obtain 7 victories. This final will begin on 12th October and could end on 18th October if a team wins 7/0 and there are no delays due to weather conditions. However, it could be extended until 27th October due to weather conditions or if the result does not show a clear winner.
At the same time as the competitions between the senior teams, the competition for the women’s teams will also be held, with the first edition of the Puig Women’s Cup. And, likewise, the youth teams will participate with the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup.
In both competitions there will be a Spanish boat thanks to the sponsorship of CaixaBank and the Puig firm, which have opted for these two categories.
The Spanish team for the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup set up its training base in the Port d’Aiguadolç in Sitges and will remain there until the beginning of summer, when they must settle in the city of Barcelona to compete in the official regattas of the America’s Cup 2024, which will take place from September 17th to 26th in the case of the youth team and from October 5th to 13th for the women’s team.

Right next to the aforementioned Sitges Marina we find the artistic Hotel Estela Barcelona, popularly known as the Hotel del Arte for having an impressive collection of art.
Hotel Estela is a hotel in Sitges facing the sea, just a few metres from the Aiguadolç Beach.
Without a doubt, its proximity to the marina makes it an ideal place to be able to follow the training sessions of the women’s and youth teams.
