Exhibition of paintings by Uwe Geest at the Hotel del Arte from Sitges

The Hotel Estela Barcelona – Hotel del Arte in Sitges presents the painting exhibition by the artist Uwe Geest. The opening will take place on Friday, October 17th at 7:30 p.m. After the opening ceremony, those who wish, may share dinner with the artist in the Iris Gallery Restaurant of the artistic hotel. The exhibition will be open until the end of December.

Uwe Geest was born in Hamburg in 1941 and spent seven years of his childhood in a town by the Baltic Sea. These years by the sea were decisive in his style and in the artistic direction of his works. In 1968, he settled in Barcelona. For many years, he combined his work as an architect and designer with painting. Since 2007, he has dedicated himself exclusively to his painting. Throughout his extensive career, he has exhibited his creations in different locations throughout Spain, as well as in various European countries such as Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Andorra, and the rest of the world, including Morocco, Japan, Canada, and Venezuela, to name a few.

As an artist, Uwe Geest is a prestigious creator with a solid career spanning decades. When observing his creations, the first thing that catches our attention is the subtle sandy texture that covers them. These creations are close to conceptual art, and largely close to pure abstraction, although in some of them we find figurative references, all supported by a soft chromatic interaction combined with minimalist forms that result in a work of perfect visual balance that surprises the observer with its elegance and delicacy.

The sands that the artist uses to create his works constitute the raw material and conceptual core of his works. Uwe Geest amasses an impressive collection of around 600 samples of sand and earth from beaches, deserts, valleys and mountains, fields and forests, islands, towns, and cities around the world.

As Uwe explains:

“Apart from the geographical origin of the sands, I’m interested in their diversity, the dimension of the grain, their shine and colour, and above all, the symbolic nature of these materials and their use as pictorial expression.”

This gives an idea of the meticulousness with which Uwe Geest conceives the creative act and the conceptual purity that impregnates his works. He masterfully places his scenes in environments that he covers with material softness and textured serenity. His creations convey a mysterious spirituality and harmony that are largely based on this subtle and personal approach.

It’s definitely worth a visit.
