The exhibition will be open until the end of March.
Marius Sala presents an abstract and minimalist style closely aligned with the Abstract Expressionism developed in the United States in the mid-20th century. This movement prioritized emotion over figuration. Marius Sala’s works fit perfectly within this premise, although the artist places them within a profound conceptual context that serves as his inspiration. His creations are reminiscent of the works by Mark Rothko, with bands of colour that interact with each other, offering the viewer a symphony of colour. The works presented by Marius Sala impress the viewer with their artistic quality, elegance, refined technical execution, and the spectacular chromatic interactions they propose.
The artist develops several creative lines which are closely related between them, drawing from the same sources from a conceptual, artistic, and creative perspective. All of them take the observation of nature as their starting point.
The first of his series is titled “Heisenberg Cut.” Marius links these works to quantum physics through the so-called Heisenberg cut, which delimits, or separates, the quantum realm from classical, measurable, and verifiable reality. This cut acts as a boundary between empirical reality and the mystical world. According to the artist, this cut or leap forward often relates to the decisions we make in our lives, to the evolution of the individual.
This cut is presented as the horizon line we see in a landscape where we don’t know what lies beyond, and it’s up to us to decide whether to go further, even without knowing what we will find. This line marks the threshold of uncertainty we must face if we so choose. Undoubtedly, this is a reflection of life itself, where every decision we make places us before a new and unknown situation.
The works in the “Heisenberg Cut” series are the starting point for all the rest of his creations.
The second series the artist presents is an evolution of the first one; it is “Conscience“. The suite refers to that incessant movement that began with the Big Bang causing the expansion of the universe. A movement that is also a constant in our lives. That constant movement within chaos, a movement we cannot stop and that traps us, but of which we must become aware. The works in this series appear to be as the moving landscape that we can see through a car window.
Finally, the “Soul” series, an evolution of the previous two, aims to reflect the moment of absolute awareness, of understanding both linear and cyclical time. “Soul” is a plea for that moment of fullness in which we become conscious of ourselves.
The audience plays an active role, encouraged by the artist. Quantum theory shows us that the observer influences the outcome of a measurement. Similarly, the artist seeks the viewer’s involvement and free interpretation, inviting them to reflect on the meaning of the works and, perhaps, on the meaning of our own existence. Just as in quantum mechanics, the observer intervenes in the process, interpreting the works according to his own unique and personal criteria.
On the artist side, he interprets the three series in a philosophical and profound way, taking the meaning and interpretation of his works to an almost esoteric and mystical plane, yet with a certain scientific basis.
However, despite what it might seem, the viewing of Marius’ works is pleasant and not complicated at all. These are works that can satisfy both the general public unfamiliar with art and the discerning eye of the most expert observer.
Without a doubt, this is a great opportunity to discover the creations of Marius Sala and appreciate the conceptual depth that surrounds them and the technical quality with which they have been executed.
