Exhibition “Genesis” of Paintings by the Artist Adolfo Rua at the Hotel del Arte in Sitges

The Hotel Estela Barcelona – Hotel del Arte in Sitges hosts the exhibition of paintings by the artist Adolfo Rua. The exhibition presents some of the artist’s works created during 2023 and 2024. The exhibition will remain open to the public during the months of February and March 2025.

The artist presents his collection of paintings entitled “Genesis”. These are works painted on linen that show multiracial faces of beautiful and delicate workmanship. The style of these paintings is unclassifiable from a traditional point of view. In fact, the artist consciously avoids conventions and artistic trends, which allows him to always maintain his creative freedom without disturbing external influences or stylistic canons to which to be faithful. Adolfo Rua is only loyal to himself and his overflowing creativity.

The faces are painted in a very detailed manner using an almost hyperrealistic technique, but the rest of the work, the parts adjacent to the faces, show abstract compositions of extreme beauty, in perfect chromatic balance, which complete the work, making the final work manifest in the eyes of the observer in a very successful plastic harmony and an impeccable symbiosis between figuration and abstraction that is very easy and pleasant to visualize. These are works that invite to meditation, that transmit peace, but at the same time they charge our batteries with positive energy and awaken our eagerness to see the next one. If it is said that art is the food of the spirit, Adolfo Rua’s works satisfy that premise perfectly.

The artist conceives the act of painting almost as an alchemical experience, in which the alchemist, that is, the artist himself, prepares all the necessary ingredients to achieve the desired potion, in this case, the final work. So, before beginning to spread the paint, Adolfo Rua carefully prepares the surface of the canvas with an underlying layer of gesso. This layer gives the final work a fine texture that is very evident to the observer and provides a finish that enriches the final painting.

In addition, the artist completes the final details of the work using metallic acrylic paints that he spreads in certain areas as seemingly random brushstrokes. These metallic traces shine when the light falls on them, or become evident as the observer moves, creating a dynamic effect that is very pleasing to the eye.

The final result is a spectacular work. The works float wrapped in a great wealth of nuances and in a technical, plastic and stylistic perfection that delight people who are passionate about art, satisfying the palate of the most versed in art, but also attracting the curious gaze of art laymen. These are creations that do not go unnoticed; they do not leave anyone indifferent.

ABOUT ADOLFO RUA

Adolfo Rua was born in Madrid in 1960, but he is a Sitges native by adoption, after decades living and creating in the Blanca Subur.

He was raised in an environment in which music and painting were always present thanks to his grandfather and his father, who studied painting at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and who was also an amateur opera singer. For this reason, Adolfo immersed himself from childhood in his favorite hobby, painting. In fact, he spent the day painting in his father’s studio, who instructed him in the profession of painter, learning all the facets involved in artistic creation: preparation, assembly and stretching of the canvas, drawing, mixing and chromatic theory and a long etcetera.

His precocity led him to hold his first solo exhibition at the very early age of 12 in Malaga, where the family lived after his father finished his Fine Arts studies in Madrid.

Adolfo Rua is an atypical and unique artist, not only for his way of understanding art but also for his peculiar way of interpreting the world in general, and the art world in particular. The artist flees from the commercialism to which many art galleries subject artists and their works. He is not an artist who likes mass public events. Adolfo has found his way away from the gallery circuit, attending art fairs on his own, where he has always sold all the works on display.

Adolfo Rua is an artist with a lot of personality, however, he is not a person given to trivial conversations. Without being an introvert person, he does prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the world, Internet, television and any external influence that could interfere with his painting, restricting his freedom. Deep down he behaves like a hermit, an ascetic who lives in seclusion in his studio, where he displays all his creative abilities.

The artist conceives artistic creation as a mystical act of communion between the artist and the work. In fact, the title of the series, “Genesis”, obviously has to do with the creation of a new line of work, but he explains that it also has to do with his own genesis of each day, with his rebirth with each work, with discovering himself in front of the virgin canvas and listening at all times to what the work itself is asking of him. Each work represents a challenge to overcome starting from scratch, without foreseeing what he is going to paint, without previsualizing what the final work will be like, but rather discovering at each moment what each of his creations needs.

For the artist, painting has to be emotion, an emotion to unravel and finally reveal the essence of each work. The purpose of his artistic creations is to make the observer participate in that emotion, something that he undoubtedly achieves.
