This sculpture belongs to the expressionist period, used by Subirachs during the 1950’s. of the XXth century. To do this, the artist resorts to the use of very sharp faces, highlighting the lines of expression on the character’s visage.

This was the style chosen by Subirachs -to enhance the drama of the scene- for the characters in the sculptural ensemble of the Passion Facade of the Temple of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
