This work belongs to the period of automatic surrealism that Puigmarti develops from the year 2000 on. During this period, gestures and automatism prevail in the artist’s works.

The artist eliminates all reference to the eroticism that had characterized his works from previous stages. In the same way, the oeniric load and the entire iconographic universe that decorated his works disappear. The only icon that remains in all the periods, including this one, is the eye.

The work shows a large central eye, surrounded by a profuse automatic decoration that surprises for its intensity and for the contrast of the use of black on reddish tones. The title of the work specifies that it is not a complete mask, but a detail of one of the eyes.
